The Triple Crown in Gold - A Very Limited Edition in 18 Kt Gold by Don PollandDon Polland embarked on a project to recreate the action and thrill of the Triple Crown of horse racing in a very limited edition of 18 Kt gold sculptures. Thsee gold sculptures were to be offered under commission in late 1978 and early 1979. The editions were to be limited to 20 of the Kentucky Derby, 75 of the Preakness, 100 of the Belmont and 150 each of 3 single running thoroughbreds. "As the owner of one of these extraordinary gold works of art, you will possess one of the most distinctive equestrian scupltures ever offered. Every feature will be depicted with remarkable fidelity by a master artist, a work of art to be admired and enjoyed from generation to generation. Each sculpture will be sent to its owner ONLY when it has been fully crafted to the exacting standards of the artist Don Polland. The superb quality and beauty of these masterpieces in gold, requires time due to high standards of handwork in the casting finishing of each work. When every subscriber has received the work he/she has commissioned, the master sculpture and molds will be destroyed and no other sculptures will ever be produced of these models again." Unfortunate circumstances arose and none of these beautiful gold sculptures were ever sold. Thanks to Charolette Polland for providing the information on this magnificent works of art by her late husband Don Polland.
